Nail trends for autumn and winter 2017

As summer draws to a close and Autumn rears its beautiful auburn hued head, we wave goodbye to bright pops of colour and usher in a new range of nail trends to see us through until next spring. From nail art with no rhyme or reason to unique neutrals and nudes, the catwalks have predicted the unpredictable for this season's beauty trends.

A time for experimenting, get prepared. Here is what your customers might be requesting over the coming weeks.

Scruffy nails

It might go against everything you stand for, but scruffy nails are a favourite this season. Seen across catwalks aplenty during Fashion Week, manicurists were on hand to make those nails looks as undressed as possible for a laid-back, contemporary vibe. In order to achieve the scruffy look, inspired by ink stains and paint strokes, use a dry brush dipped in a dark shade of brown or grey and swoosh across the nail with one stroke for an undone but high-fashion finish.

Unique neutrals and nudes

Although beiges, teals and browns have not been the most popular of choices in recent years, with people opting for flashes of colour and classic reds instead, stock up on neutral hues this season as interesting colour requests are coming your way. Think earthy gel polish colours such as murky greens, off-whites and lighter browns as people look to match their nails to their autumnal surroundings this season.

Negative space

A trend that has been around for a season or two, negative space on nails is set to become particularly popular this autumn and winter. Paint the nail with a clear coat of polish and decorate the bed with a pop of colour in either dots, stripes or across the tip. Think bold colours for decoration, such as royal or electric blues, double decker reds or even bold greens if your client is feeling brave enough. Cover with a no-wipe top coat to make the look last.

Go for gold

Be it glitter or metallic paint, it seems as though your customers might be asking for the Midas touch a little sooner than December this year. Less is definitely not more when it comes to all that glitters, so help your customer's hands shine with both a lick of metallic paint and a dollop of glitter for hands that sparkle through winter. Chrome nails are the perfect way to achieve perfect party talons, too.
